Ahh, can't wait!
I went away recently to a beautiful timeshare resort in Hilton Head, SC.  To my amazement, there were not just one, but two, huge jacuzzi tubs in the villa!  I love to take jacuzzi baths, with the jets particularly focused on my lower back and shoulders.  And, I really love taking them in hotels where I don't have to clean the tub after I use it!  So, here I am, filling the tub, with excited anticipation for the experience I'm about to have.  Click on picture for larger view.

What's wrong with this?
Here's the tub without water in it, in case you couldn't see clearly....  You'll notice the jet placements.  Well, again, I was just so excited that I jumped in the tub and planted myself smack in the middle of this luxurious bath.  Soft music was playing, it was going to be heavenly....  until, I really began to sweat (and I hate sweating), and I noticed that I wasn't really getting the spray on my lower back as I had hoped.  I began to think:  "what's wrong with this tub?"  Here I had all these high expectations of how I was going to luxuriate in the warmth, and vibrating comfort of the jets against my sore shoulders and back, and it wasn't working!!  Notice..........  "IT wasn't working........"

Look closely....
Of course, I had waited until my last night to use the jacuzzi... other activities and fatigue just prevented me from using it earlier.  As I was doing the pre-departure cleaning for the timeshare, I looked once more at the jacuzzi....  what I now noticed was that this "huge" jacuzzi was probably intended for two people, and if you look closely, you can notice "seats" where, if one planted themselves there, would have a jet perfectly positioned against your lower back... and the side jets against your legs.....  and, I suppose if you sunk down into the tub, you'd feel the warmth and vibration on your shoulders...........

So, maybe it wasn't the tub that was broken.......  maybe it was how I was choosing to view the situation and what I was noticing..... or not noticing......... and the noticing came, ironically, when I wasn't trying, and was mindlessly cleaning.....

Hmmmmm.... what lessons can we learn from this??  While perhaps a simple example, I think the principles well apply to how we choose to go through life.  It is when we notice our perspective, challenge that, and choose an alternate path, we find we get the results we wanted all along... we just had to get out of our own way.

Viewfinder Coaching and Consulting is committed to helping you find alternate, more positive and productive views to get you and your organization the results you want!
